Shona Macnaughton, Francesca Nobilucci, Ewan Sinclair and Ana Kuzmanic work together as Eastern Surf to merge the real (that can be touched) with the virtual (that can only be seen).
The artists play a communication game combining digital interventions into each other’s ‘real’ space with live interactions across virtual portals and networks. In this way they transform spaces into visual surfaces making material the virtual network that in one way or another we all inhabit.
Eastern Surf have set up office in Spiers Locks for the duration of GI 2012 to produce a video work set in the Whiskey bond, a building post industry but pre transformation. The project will look at the possible utopic/dystopic outcomes of the proposed development projecting a manifestation of the future vision of this self proclaimed "creative factory" to four Mutual Charter Muster Points scatterd around Glasgow.
