Packing and Mourning. This project communicates both the exhilaration and the bitter sweet nature of moving on. The artists involved in this proposal are relocating again, an activity and process which seems to be an inescapable, exciting and yet sometimes unsettling adjunct to artistic practice and study.
The title comes from a text message sent by Eija Hirvonen, to Penny Anderson who, when asked what she was doing to prior to her somewhat reluctant departure from Glasgow, replied: 'I am packing and mourning.'
This project begins and lives in the form of blog, written by the four participating artists, all in transit and separated by place, but linked by shared thoughts about their absence from Glasgow, and by planning where to go next.
The response will then assume physical form as an exhibition in a hotel, where the four artists will interpret their separation/alienation in art works. The exhibition will end, the submissions will be packed up and transported. And around it goes, packing and mourning then moving on.
